We are in the Maestrazgo
A beautiful part of the Iberic mountains
Physionatural is located at the doors of the Maestrazgo region, a remote and beautiful area of Spain, set on the Iberic Mountain Range. We are in a very rural area of Teruel, one of the most unpopulated provinces of Spain. The clinic is around 2 km from the nearest village, Mas de las Matas. Our Centre stands on its own, with no immediate neighbours and sits in quiet and beautiful surroundings, overlooking the Guadalope river valley and the Iberic Mountains, an ideal spot if you want to relax in a peaceful and natural environment.
This area is blessed with an amazing array of both flora and fauna, beautyful aromatic herbs, flowers and wildlife, Mountain Goats, Wild Boar, Vultures, Eagles and Kestrels and in the summer months in particular we are visited by amazing birdlife with Swallows, Bee Eaters, Hoopoes, Black Redstarts, Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers to name but a few.
The region has great geological interest also with the surrounding landscapes that appear almost unpopulated, waiting to be explored.The Guadalope river valley stretches from the edge of the property with plenty of foot paths for walks or hikes.Within a 10 minute drive, you can visit our two surrounding lakes, Calanda and Santolea, ideal locations for a bit of swimming.
Also close you can visit the Bergantes River, a beautiful canyon where you can enjoy a swim in natural clear pools or sunbathing on the giant rocks that line this canyon.
For those with interest, the local area is rich in Templar heritage with Templar Churches in Castellote and Bordon or the spectacular remains of a Templar Castle positioned on top of the mountain range that overlooks the village Castellote.
If you are tempted by Spanish tradition there are many Festivals throughout the year in our many neighboring villages, Alcorisa, Alcañiz and Calanda where the Route de Tambor begins with drum playing processions and parades an amazing experience indeed.
We are also very close to Alcañiz Motorland Race Track situated approximately 30 minutes away.
How to get to us
From Zaragoza
- Zaragoza airport receives flights from Stansted airport (England) five days a week.
- Zaragoza Delicias Train Station. Zaragoza is very well connected by high speed train with major spanish cities. This AVE train usually runs every hour.
We provide free transfer from Zaragoza aiport and train station for the 7 day retreats.

From Barcelona Airport
- Direct bus from Barcelona airport Terminal 1 to Calanda town, which is 15 minutes away from Physionatural.
- During Winter, there are fewer daily buses, please check avalability in the above link.
- From Barcelona airport take a R2 train to Barcelona Sants Station (1 train every half and hour).
- Then from Barcelona Sants Station take a train to Zaragoza or Caspe, from where we'll pick you up free of charge.
Contact us, and will advise you with your travel arrangements and pick you up from Calanda, Caspe or Zaragoza for free.
